SUMMARY:Lydian Royal Road Trail
LOCATION:Sardes Antik Kenti\, Sart Mahallesi\, Salihli/Manisa
DESCRIPTION:A trail race on the ancient Royal Road that Lydian kings used for messages and trade\, starting from the ruins of Sardis. The courses run through the footpaths\, valleys and ancient traces on the lower slopes of Bozdağ across four distances: 6K Kurşunlu (140m of climb)\, 13K Caferbey (264m)\, 30K Sardes (990m) and 40K Lidya Kral Yolu (1\,463m). Sardis and the Bin Tepeler Lydian tumuli around the start were added to the UNESCO World Heritage list in 2025. The 40K is a UTMB Index race scored in the 50K category — it contributes to the UTMB Index but awards no Running Stones. The 30K and 40K require a medical certificate or a federation licence\, and a mandatory kit list applies\, including a one-litre water capacity\, whistle\, emergency blanket and a reusable cup\, as no plastic cups are provided on course. Age categories run -29\, 30-39\, 40-49\, 50-59 and 60+\, and the weekend programme includes a children's race. First run in March 2026 with more than 600 athletes\, the 2027 edition runs 12-14 March with entries opening soon.
