Trail Running Events in Turkey

31 events found.

Trail running draws on the variety of Turkey's mountainous and volcanic terrain, and it's grown quickly as a discipline in recent years. Cappadocia's fairy-chimney valleys, the technical single-track of the Taurus Mountains, high-elevation routes in the Kaçkar range, and olive-covered coastal hills along the Aegean each offer a different flavour of difficulty. Events typically run multiple distance options from 10K to 50K, so newer trail runners and experienced mountain athletes can enter the same race weekend. The season concentrates from late spring through autumn; high-elevation courses stay closed until snowmelt, usually before May-June, while coastal and steppe courses use early starts to avoid summer heat. Elevation gain often matters more than distance — the same kilometre count can mean very different difficulty depending on the climb profile, which is why organisers typically publish total ascent (D+) alongside course distance. GPX file sharing and marked checkpoints are now standard at most mid-to-large trail events. Given the terrain, trail shoes, a hydration system, and — at some events — mandatory gear (navigation device, first-aid kit) can be entry requirements.

November is the busiest month, with 10 races. Distances run from 0.5km to 160km. Climb decides difficulty more often than distance does: Intersport Mezopotamya Trail Run has 1,233m of ascent, İznik Ultra Maratonu has 4,740m.
