Upcoming Events in the Aegean Region

27 events found in the Aegean region.

The Aegean region — around Izmir, Bodrum and Çeşme — is where coastal running, open-water swimming and triathlon come together. Its indented coastline of sheltered bays suits calm-water swim and triathlon events, while olive-grove hills and coastal paths support moderate trail running. Izmir hosts the region's largest city marathon and a regular 10K/half-marathon calendar; Bodrum and Çeşme lean toward triathlon and swimming events concentrated in summer, overlapping with the tourist season. The season runs May through October, matching when sea temperatures become swim-friendly; coastal wind — particularly Çeşme's characteristic "meltem" — is a real factor on cycling and triathlon bike legs. The region's marina infrastructure and resort character make many events easy to combine with a weekend trip, and a meaningful share of entrants travel from Istanbul and Ankara specifically for a race here. The olive harvest season (October-November) occasionally overlaps with some rural running courses, a regional quirk worth knowing if a course runs through working groves.

14 of the next 27 races fall between September and November. Distances run from 0.2km to 1000km.
